Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of the Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT) including planning, response and recovery from natural and human-caused hazards. Design, develop, coordinate and implement a training and exercise program to support that program.     
  • Identify, evaluate, budget and maintain emergency preparedness resources and solutions including the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), etc.     
  • Develop and maintain the Emergency Operations Plan including supporting annexes, procedures and references.     
  • Guide and direct continuity of operations planning with RIT departments, which provide essential services to the university.     
  • Coordinate University plans with those of the community to ensure appropriate synchronization and mutual aid, including the adherance to local and state guidelines for event management.     
  • Ensure operations of emergency Notification systems, in conjunction with Emergency Communications Manager.     
  • Develop and maintain informational websites.    
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent background in Civilian, Military or Law Enforcement experience
5-7 years in the emergency management field. Experience in higher education a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred: International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)  
  • DRI International Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Associate Business Continuity Professional  (ABCP) certification
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100.b, IS-200.b and IS-700.a
  • International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), National Emergency Management Basic Academy (NEMBA))

Job Summary

Please note: This position requires the ability to be on call to respond to emergencies on campus, when needed.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Public Safety, the Director of Emergency Management leads an enterprise-wide university emergency management program. Oversees and coordinates the work of the Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT), including planning, response and recovery from natural and human-caused hazards. Provides incident/emergency preparedness information, consultation, and training to the campus community. Understands applicable regulations and standards related to emergency management including but not limited to the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Works with local, county, state, and national agencies to coordinate plans, procedures, and training.

Serves as a resource to university departments for business continuity planning including documentation, implementation and training associated with such policies.
