Description:

The EHS Manager is responsible for Health & Safety compliance for all Massachusetts locations as well as supporting the day-to-day operations of R&D sites in Cambridge and Worcester, MA. As the H&S lead, this role will support the implementation of the management system to ensure all H&S compliance activities are performed and tracked. Additionally, as the operational lead for R&D locations, he/she will be required build productive working relationships with scientific staff and leadership while implementing and executing appropriate lab programs.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in EHS
  • B.S. or equivalent in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health or related field or in a technical discipline, e.g. science or engineering. 
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry is a plus

Responsibilities:     

  • Support day-to-day operations of the R&D facilities in Cambridge and Worcester MA, attend meetings, provide safety updates and understand operations at a level where appropriate and timely input can be offered
  • Manage the response, investigation, and documentation of all work-related injuries
  • Lead or assist with EHS incident investigations, identifying root causes to implement effective corrective actions and recommend systemic improvements
  • Develop and implement EHS programs and train all affected personnel 
  • Lead or participate in hazard and risk assessments for new or changed equipment processes
  • Perform EHS inspections of manufacturing, laboratories and offices areas. Document and report findings and oversee implementation of corrective actions while identifying and communicating trends
  • Conduct and coordinate IH monitoring and sampling at all locations
  • Apply for, renew, and maintain necessary hazardous materials processing, flammable storage and any other applicable permits for site operations
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of emergency response plans and procedures
  • Ensure fire drills are conducted and evaluated, and fire life safety equipment and systems are maintained
  • Participate on safety committees as appropriate
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team
  • Support the implementation of the online management system to track EHS performance
  • Gather and report up EHS metrics for the facility and track EHS performance

Key Skills:

  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with relevant EHS legislation and regulations
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 25 pounds, and work safely in confined spaces
  • Capability to access and work within cGMP clean rooms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and skills 
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision 
  • Capability to creatively communicate, train, and motivate employees
