Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Provides in-person interpreting services to Limited English Proficient patients/families and providers during clinical and non-clinical encounters at different medical specialties in English and in a second language; in a confidential, accurate and impartial way, maintaining professional and ethical standards of interpreting.
- Provides sight interpretation as needed of medical consent forms, patient and family education materials, and any other as assigned.
- Selects the appropriate modality of interpreting based on the patient provider encounter (audio, video or in-person interpreting).
- Explains interpreting services resources, makes appropriate referrals; serve as a cultural and linguistic liaison to both patients and providers to contribute to successful outcomes.
- Assists with language services tools (troubleshooting, connectivity, and training of interpreting iPads and phones).
- Supports the office operations by answering the phone, taking requests, calling patients to confirm appointments, document encounters on the interpreter tracking system, verify and schedules patient’s appointments.
- Provides support with the interpreter’s scheduling as needed.
- Assists the department with onboarding of new interpreters and mentoring interpreter interns. • Utilizes on-line computer systems such as Outlook, and other hospital software. Work with special projects assigned.

- Adheres to professional standards and ethical guidelines for accurate interpretation.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred
- Fully bilingual speaking/writing/reading
Licensure/Certification
None. Experience
- Fluency in Spanish and one or more foreign languages, both oral and written, as validated by a formal language assessment.
- One year of medical interpreting preferred
