FINGERPRINT RECORDS EXAMINER I, SR-12
Summary of Duties:
This position is under the direct supervision of the Metropolitan Police Sergeant and Lieutenant of the Identification Section. The incumbent classifies fingerprints, verifies identification through fingerprints, maintains the Criminal Record File and provides verified information and records from that file to the Courts and Criminal Justice system.
Example of Duties:
- Receives arrest documents and fingerprint records from the Receiving Desk and all country districts on Oahu daily and conducts preliminary fingerprint searches. Prepares the daily calendar for District Courts as needed, prints computer generated abstracts and is responsible for the verification of repeat offenders and computer inquiries for first time arrests.
- Classifies and/or verifies all Oahu criminal arrest fingerprints utilizing the Henry system or the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) as appropriate. Makes comparison and final determinations of identity.
- Analyzes and classifies fingerprint cards; searches, verifies, files and/or retrieves such cards using knowledge of Henry classification, practical experience, judgment, and interpretation.
- Maintains and updates the database of adult criminal fingerprint records and juvenile fingerprint records of specific categories, pattern typing cards, utilizing AFIS multi-functional menu: demographics, acquisition and search, capturing fingerprint image, core placement, minutia quality control, verification and support functions to ensure system accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and four years of clerical experience, two of which shall have involved fingerprint classification and filing work.
License Requirement:
None
Knowledge of:
The Henry and AFIS Systems of fingerprint classification, comparison, and filing; fingerprint classification formulas, symbols and terminology; pertinent Hawaii Revised Statutes and judicial processes; file extension methods; office practices and procedures.
