The Post

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and empathetic professional to join Brent Council as a Parent Support Adviser within the Inclusion and Alternative Education Service.

This vital role focuses on providing intensive, flexible, and non-judgmental support to families whose children are at risk of exclusion or have been permanently excluded from school. Working in partnership with families, schools, and other agencies, you will deliver tailored interventions that promote positive parenting, improve behaviour, and support children’s engagement with education.

You will act as a key professional for families, leading multi-agency meetings, delivering evidence-based parenting programmes, and supporting families through complex challenges, including transitions and the EHCP assessment process. Your work will help tackle underachievement and ensure that children—particularly the most disadvantaged—have full access to educational opportunities.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families in Brent. You will be part of a supportive team committed to early intervention, safeguarding, and inclusive education.

The Person

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled individual with a strong background in family support, education, or social care.

You will have:

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as support work in schools or teaching and learning.
  • Adequate experience of direct work with families experiencing difficulties.
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding policies, child development, and the social and emotional factors that affect learning.
  • Knowledge of Early Help processes, and multi-agency working.
  • The ability to deliver structured, evidence-based parenting programmes and provide 1:1 support in both school and home settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with families and work collaboratively with professionals across education, health, and social care.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage a complex caseload, maintain accurate records, and evaluate the impact of interventions.

You will be proactive, resilient, and passionate about supporting families to overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes. A flexible and inclusive approach, combined with a commitment to safeguarding and continuous improvement, is essential
