As our Applications Engineering Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving customer success, shaping product workflows and translating real-world biological challenges into scalable solutions on the Qudos platform. You will lead the applications team, manage customer-facing projects and ensure Qudos consistently delivers value in advanced biologics R&D and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will leverage your proven engineering skills to develop a new class of personal manufacturing system. Working with a multidisciplinary team, your role will include:

Application Development

  • Customer application input
    • Partner with customers to identify problems and co-create solutions.
    • Capture technical and user requirements and translate them into effective workflows on Qudos.
    • Design, refine and validate customer workflows with a focus on usability and feasibility.
  • Customer application output
    • Deliver regular progress updates, milestones and reports to customers.
    • Manage technology transfer, training and technical support for customers adopting Qudos.
    • Ensure workflows meet production-grade reproducibility standards.
  • R&D support
    • Provide biological and application expertise to internal R&D teams.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, software developers and scientists to design and test customer workflows.
    • Lead and oversee biology team operations, including laboratory resources and activities.
  • Product roadmap input
    • Gather structured market and customer feedback to inform roadmap decisions.
    • Translate customer outcomes into actionable roadmap features for Qudos.
    • Ensure alignment between Qudos’ capabilities and evolving market needs.

Project Management

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans ensuring milestones are delivered on time and to quality.
  • Support and coordinate grant-funded projects, including preparation for review meetings.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines and deliverables.
  • Anticipate risks, implement mitigation strategies and build contingency/scenario plans.
  • Act as a key point of accountability across internal and external stakeholders.

 Business Development & External Engagement

  • Identify opportunities for new applications of Qudos and contribute to successful grant applications.
  • Provide technical input during business development conversations, supporting customer acquisition and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams on lead generation, proposals and customer success strategies.
  • Contribute to thought leadership by preparing content, presentations and marketing materials that highlight Qudos’ value to the industry.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Background

  • Degree (PhD or MSc) in biological sciences, bioengineering, bioprocessing or related field.
  • Strong technical expertise in biologics development, cell & gene therapy, synthetic biology or bioprocessing applications.

Experience

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in an applications engineering, applications science, or technical lead role within the life sciences/biotech sector.
  • Demonstrated success in customer-facing roles, designing workflows, capturing requirements and delivering technical solutions.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and laboratory operations.
  • Track record of managing complex projects including timelines, budgets and deliverables.
  • Prior exposure to product development roadmaps and providing structured market/customer feedback.
  • Experience supporting business development (grant applications, customer proposals, technical sales support) is highly desirable.
