Salary: $21/hour
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Scheule: Mon-Thurs 1pm-5/6pm and Fridays 11:30a-5/6pm
Location: Various elementary schools within the Newhall School District
The STEM Specialist will work under the supervision of the School Sites Manager, in close collaboration with School Site Coordinators. This role requires that you travel between elementary school sites within the Newhall School District. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and delivering engaging, age-appropriate STEM programs at school sites. The focus is on creating exciting opportunities for youth to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through a variety of activities, both during afterschool hours and throughout summer programming.
- Curriculum Development: Maintain and develop consistent, comprehensive curriculum in STEM education that aligns with youth development principles.
- Program Planning and Execution: Plan, promote, and execute technology/STEM activities, including STEMfinity, during afterschool and summer hours.
- Youth Engagement: Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs that increase youth attendance and participation.
- Technology Resource Management: Maintain and use Club technology resources daily to support program activities.
- Training and Professional Development: Participate in BGCA national programs and trainings (e.g., MyFuture, Career Launch, Digital Arts Festival, coding programs) as needed.
- Record Keeping: Responsible for proper record-keeping and reporting related to program activities and attendance.
- STEM Camps and Themes: Develop and implement engaging STEM-related science themes or camps.
- Program Development: Create locally-focused STEM programs that encourage youth participation and ensure that multiple projects are managed effectively.
- Recruitment: Actively recruit Club members for STEM activities and programs each day.
- Safe Environment: Ensure a safe and clean environment that is conducive to youth development and learning.
- Guidance and Discipline: Provide guidance to Club members and enforce appropriate behavior and discipline.
- Equipment Management: Maintain and care for applicable STEM-related supplies and equipment.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the School Sites Manager.
Requirements
- Minimum of one year of experience in youth development, implementation, and supervision of STEM-related programs. Flexibility in program planning and delivery, with the ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Knowledge and ability to demonstrate informal guidance techniques and practices in working with youth.
- Able to lift 25 pounds, bend, stand, and kneel for long periods of time.
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Clean driving record, drivers license and transportation
- Have reliable transportation to travel between school sites
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Group leadership skills, with an understanding of group dynamics.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Active, approachable, and available to youth.
- Experience working with school-age youth in a group setting.
- Requirements/Work Environment:
- Bilingual: Spanish preferred, but not required
