How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

As our Senior Primary Electrical Engineer, you will lead primary/high-voltage design efforts across major energy projects. You’ll be embedded in the Power Transmission & Distribution practice, working closely with clients, internal design teams, civil/structural/secondary systems, and other stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective primary electrical infrastructure designs.

Your role will include:

• Lead the design of primary electrical systems: layout drawings, single line diagrams, schematics, equipment specification, for substations and transmission assets.
• Advance designs from concept through to detailed design (AIS & GIS substations), including component selection (transformers, breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers).
• Perform technical studies/calculations: clearance, insulation coordination, earthing/grounding, thermal ratings, fault current studies.
• Coordinate and integrate with civil, structural, secondary systems, protection & control systems to ensure a holistic, constructible design.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes & guidelines (AS/NZS, IEC, IEEE or equivalents), client requirements, and regulatory approvals.
• Review, mentor and provide technical leadership to more junior engineers and designers.
• Contribute to tenders, feasibility studies, cost estimates, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What we’re looking for from you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Significant experience (e.g. 7-12+ years) in high-voltage / primary electrical design for substations and/or transmission infrastructure.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with layout, schematics, equipment specification, design calculations and design documentation.
• Strong knowledge of Australian and international standards governing high voltage/substation design.
• Capability in working within multi-disciplinary design teams, coordinating with civil/structural, secondary systems, protection & control.
• Excellent technical communication skills, report writing, and ability to lead design reviews.
• Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables, stakeholder expectations, and deadlines.
• Professional registration or working toward (e.g. CPEng or equivalent) desirable.
