SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate's degree from an approved dietetic program or Bachelor's in Nutrition or Dietetics.
Experience: One year experience in hospital environment with on the job training preferred.
Other Credentials:
Knowledge and Skills: Basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Uses established criteria to identify patients at moderate nutritional risk. Refers high risk patients to Registered Dietician. Uses information gained from patient interview and data from medical record to write appropriate and complete chart notes.
- Ensures nutrition care and documentation are within established time frames. Documents nutrition care in dietary Kardexes in accordance with established protocols.
- Calculates accurately nutrition needs. Uses patient information, medical record data, and nutrition calculations to accurately assess patient's nutritional status.
- Utilizes appropriately nutrition assessment to facilitate development of care plan in accordance with clinical nutrition practice guidelines.
- Posts, calculates, and documents calorie counts accurately.
- Documents appropriate content and recommendations as required by auditing criteria.
- Communicates successfully to educate patients on modified diets and food and drug interactions.
- Acts as the Food/Nutrition Department liaison on specified nursing units with the clinical, medical, and ancillary staff. Communicates professionally, courteously, consistently and appropriately. Relays nursing issues of patient care and food service to the appropriate person for resolution.
- Answers telephone appropriately with name, department, and helpful demeanor. Greets and communicates customers professionally and effectively.
- Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned.
- Prepares required reports such as monthly statistics completely, legibly and timely.
- Completes assigned meal rounds and tray assessments as required.
