ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Fleet Control Specialist position at the City of Tucson’s General Services Department coordinates the programmed movement of vehicles and equipment through the Asset Management System (AMS). 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Fleet Services Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiates repair orders from service requests and routes vehicles and equipment to the appropriate service area. Maintains daily records of all equipment and equipment status in the AMS to verify and certify completeness of logs and records. Maintains security and accuracy of Fleet Control vehicle keys. 

  • Prepares vehicle emission forms for City vehicles in compliance with state regulations and coordinates scheduling of vehicle emissions testing. Assists in coordinating and expediting the flow of vehicles and equipment requiring minor or priority services.  

  • Creates and logs daily vehicle status reports and maintains records of all equipment awaiting parts as well as equipment sent out for warranty and contract work. Coordinates and transports the delivery of fleet assets going to and from vendors and customers.  

  • Coordinates communication with field repairs and dispatch by relaying information to towing contractors, tire shop service and field mechanic service trucks. Operates a variety of fleet vehicles and heavy equipment as needed to support field repairs, transport, or testing.  

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work schedule may require early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

  • Often works under the following conditions: Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to physical, ergonomic, or hazardous environment, which includes but not limited to dirt, grime, chemical, loud noise, and unfavorable odors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: One (1) year of directly related experience
Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications: Valid and Unrestricted Arizona Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Arizona Department of Transportation – Motor Vehicle Division

Preferred Qualifications:1 year of experience in: Automotive repair and service or related field.
