POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director for Disability Support Services works under the direction of the Director for Disability Support Services to facilitates/coordinates the delivery of accommodative services, manages the day-to-day operations of the office, and assists in development and maintenance budget and public relations (internally and externally). The position involves representing the office at various functions and direct contact with prospective and current students, their families, faculty, staff, administrators and the community. The ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information is essential. The Assistant Director will also learn and support the director in understanding physical and programmatic access issues across.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Note-taker Software & Assignment
Manage note taking software and graduate student/ administrative staff that support this service.
Provide professional development and support staff with assigning and removing students from the note taking software.
Develop and maintain effective systems to support this process.
Keep abreast of current trends and best practices in order to make improvements
Student Testing
Supervise the GA Testing Coordinator and assign workload to alleviate the number of exams to be proctored and additional administrative work
Prepare, schedule, proctor and return to the professor exams completed in the DSS office.
Develop and maintain effective systems to support this process.
Faculty Liaison
Meets and collaborates with students, faculty and staff to identify academic barriers and negotiate reasonable accommodations to enable students’ full participation in the classroom environment.
Act as a resource for faculty and staff providing training on complex issues related to the provision of services for disabled students; educate faculty and staff on compliance with federal and state regulations as needed.
Collaboration and Partnerships
Collaborates with EASE team members regarding student issues and concerns, internal procedures and processes, external communication, and services.
Collaborate with other areas within the Division of Student Development and other offices across campus as needed.
Represent the College and/or institutional committees and task forces as deemed appropriate.
Interact with student services departments to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to enrollment services, campus activities, financial aid, in-person and online courses, and other student success initiatives.
Education and Support
Participates in professional development, workshops and conferences regarding disability‐related issues
Conducts on‐campus presentations regarding disability to promote a more inclusive campus environment.
Serves as a point of contact for Disability Support Services at various tabling’s and committee meetings.
Serve as a resource for the Office of Admission and at prospective student request, provide general information about the process to register with Disability Support Services.
Provide support and assist in the retention of Le Moyne College students, particularly those served by Disability Support Services.
Supervision
Hire, train, and supervise graduate/work study students, providing clear direction and oversight.
Hold regular meetings and provide feedback useful students to facilitate continuous improvement with goal of mastery.
Assessment and Evaluation
Manage ongoing confidential data collection and analysis.
In collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director will play a key role in assessment of the program and services. Will assist in collaboration with the Director to ensure that programs and services are the highest quality possible and delivered in a timely manner.
Stay abreast of best practice in disability services, updating pages and adding new resources in a timely way.
Generate appropriate reports, surveys, and questionnaires for annual assessment and evaluation periods for the division.
Work to collect feedback from faculty, staff, and students in relation to processes, workflow, and effectiveness of services.
Responsible for all records and record keeping related to the Disability Support Services, complying with FERPA regulations and other relevant laws related to receiving, maintaining, and sharing of protected student records.
Communication and Marketing
Implement a calendar or other means for updating students, staff, and faculty on the office’s activities, deadlines, etc.
Community and Sense of Belonging
Manage a caseload of students who disclose a disability as well as with other students interested in exploring resources to determine if they have a disability
Meet with students within the caseload each semester to identify barriers, needs, and to celebrate successes.
Conducts Welcome Meetings with students who register with Disability Support Services.
Assists students in identifying field of interest and careers of interests
Assists with the coordination of academic advising, course selection, audit permission, and creating course modification plans
Develops and maintains positive collaborative relationships with partners on and off campus
Advise and provide on-going counsel to students who qualify and use accommodation
Plan and execute Belonging events, Student Open House, and other DSS office sponsored events for students
Administration
Manages the interactive process for all student accommodations
Ensure accommodative needs (technology, reformatting, etc.) are met
Schedule, implement, modify and monitor exams in the DSS office
Maintain integrity of proctoring
Oversee and implement the provision of alternatively formatted texts
Work with agencies and publishers; maintain memberships as appropriate; operate within educational and copyright law
Scan and reformat texts as needed
Manage departmental email accounts
Work with students and faculty to use the AIM system for communication
Work with student on weekly basis to address issues of executive functioning
Assist with securing outside funding i.e. SWPDs and others
Assists with maintaining and coordinating the use of support equipment and adaptive technology

QUALIFICATIONS
3-5 years office experience, a college or university setting preferred
Master’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Excellent customer service skills
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated time management and organization skills.
Computer skills: familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook; Google docs and Gmail; desktop publishing software; assistive technology; and scanning/document conversion software (ABBY, OmniPage)
AIM data management system
Working knowledge of Assistive technology Read and Write, Smart Pen etc.
Flexibility to work extended and/or off-hours to meet departmental needs.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of State and Federal disability laws i.e. ADA, 504 etc.
