What You'll Do:
As an HSES Specialist, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, driving health, safety, environmental, and security initiatives aligned with RC-14001 and other management system standards. Your work will directly impact employee safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in operational excellence. A successful candidate will be a self-managing leader that has a strong knowledge of management systems with the ability to support both HSES and Quality programs. This role reports to the Plant Manager, sharing Internal Management Systems responsibilities with the Quality Manager and Corporate Lubrizol functions.
- Work directly with HSES groups to ensure policies are implemented and followed.
- Assist with the implementation of health and safety programs and initiatives in support of the facility’s compliance programs, RC-14001 Management System and facility and corporate goals.
- Address internal HSES concerns.
- Develop and maintain effective policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Complete structured assignments professionally.
- Provide leadership for safety and security initiatives.
- Manage the Management of Change Process.
- Manage the Lubrizol Quality Health and Safety systems (QHSES) incident and audit tracking mechanisms. Lead/assist in incident investigations and documentation.
- Lead and assist in incident investigations and documentation.
- Plan and implement safety training programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
- Help develop controls for identified hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
- Conduct/coordinate illness exposure monitoring.
- Coordinate and oversee compliance with applicable environmental regulations including CAA, RCRA, CWA, CERCLA, EPCRA, SPCC, and SWP3 to ensure permitted operation.
- Monitor and track due dates for permits, reports, and audits.
- Assist facilities with waste handling procedures, waste manifests and profiles, and the submittal of annual waste summary reports.
- Conduct HSES audits at facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures in addition to tracking corrective actions from audits and incidents.
- Support Houston facility as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills That Make a Difference:
- High School Diploma required.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Strong project management and detail orientation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Operational Excellence, 5S, Six Sigma, and Standard Work.
Considered a Plus:
- College degree in applicable field is preferred.
- Experience with RC-14001 or similar Responsible Care systems preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Requires use of appropriate PPE (Must be clean shaven to appropriately wear a respirator).
- Full-time, onsite work schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm.
- 5% travel required.
