Position Description

JOB TITLE: Host/Hostess

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

REPORTS TO: Manager or Designated Person

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:

To facilitate seating and reservations for the restaurant. To provide a courteous, friendly and professional arrival/departure experience for our guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • To understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional manner, deferring to the Manager when necessary to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • To be aware, at all times, of current reservations, visiting VIP's, and special events, in order to provide personalized service to guests.
  • To provide prompt, efficient, and gracious service, in person or over the telephone, including making restaurant reservations, greeting guests with salutations, seating guests as they arrive, providing menus, and responding to all requests for information regarding the restaurant and property.
  • To oversee and ensure continuity of service, including assisting service staff, as necessary.
  • To ensure proper rotation of service stations when seating guests.
  • To ensure the accuracy, cleanliness, good condition and appropriate inventory of all menus, check presenters and beverage lists used during each shift.
  • To properly record covers, staffing, service flow, and guest comments in log book, for each shift.
  • To use Open Table for reservations and monitoring flow of business.
  • To accommodate any and all reasonable requests, particularly for seating preferences.
  • To follow all policies and procedures of JC Resorts LLC.
  • To immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions.
  • To maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times.
  • To practice safe work habits at all times, to avoid injury to self and others.
  • To comply with company and departmental safety rules and regulations, including the proper handling of all relevant equipment.
  • To attend all mandatory meetings as directed.
  • To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION LEVEL: English fluency required. Previous hospitality or restaurant experience preferred. Familiar with proper etiquette of seating and salutations. Basic knowledge of foods, service standards, and procedures. Must display knowledge of currently accepted business phone etiquette. Open Table experience preferred. RBS certification may be required.

SKILLS AND APTITUDES: Detail oriented. Organized and efficient. Quick Learner. Safety-minded. High quality standards for production and service. Diplomatic and calm. Strong verbal communications skills. Courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Good team player. Customer service focus.

Able to work productively with little supervision. Trustworthy and reliable.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Constantly moving between in and outdoor environment. While indoors, works in clean, adequately-lighted restaurant. Exposed to weather conditions while seating and assisting guests outdoors. Work areas may be crowded and noisy. Service area is bi-level. Makes frequent trips to the kitchen, where air may be moist, warm, and odorous from cooking foods.

Kitchen floor is uneven, and may be slippery from moisture and grease.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands and walks short distances throughout shift. Frequent use of stairs, daily. Heavy use of phones and other electronics, daily. Must be able to work well under pressure.

NON-EXEMPT POSITION: Non-exempt employees are subject to the wage and hour laws and entitled to overtime pay. All overtime work by a non-exempt employee must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor, the General Manager, or other designated manager at the property. Non-exempt employees who work overtime without prior approval are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

The expected base wage range for this position is: $16.50 to $16.50 per hour. This position may be eligible for additional compensation according to the Company’s policies, as they may be amended from time to time.
