Summary: The Production Control and Planning Intern will assist in defining and implementing productivity enhancement initiatives within the Production Control department. This role supports planning and scheduling activities, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with departments such as Manufacturing, Inventory, Engineering, and IT. The intern will gain exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Epicor), production workflows, and business analytics tools like SQL and Power BI.
This internship offers hands-on experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment, providing opportunities to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges while contributing to process improvements and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Gain exposure to production planning responsibilities at our Garner, IA headquarters and satellite locations in Northern Iowa
• Support utilization and efficiency of our MRP/ERP system (e.g., Infor) for production scheduling and planning
• Assist in analyzing production schedules, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending improvements
• Collaborate with Inventory and Manufacturing teams to ensure material availability and timely production
• Monitor work order progress and schedule adherence
• Collect, organize, and analyze production data using SQL and Excel
• Develop dashboards and visualizations in Power BI to communicate production insights
• Document current planning processes and identify inefficiencies or gaps
• Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements for planning improvements
• Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives
• Assist in formulating and updating departmental policies and procedures
• Create planning documentation, process flows, and business case summaries
• Other projects and duties as assigned
Competencies:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI
• Experience with SQL for data extraction and analysis
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
• Quick learner with a proactive mindset and strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
• Familiarity with ERP systems (preferably Epicor) and manufacturing processes
• Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and concepts
Education and/or Experience:
• Currently enrolled undergraduate student studying Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field
• At least two years of concentrated coursework in relevant disciplines
• GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
