Position Title:                                    Safety and Support Services Specialist

Reports to:                                         Manager, Safety and Support Services

 

Job Summary: Provides for the overall safety and security of residents, Co-Workers,

guests, visitors and students at The Center at Donaldson as well as providing cross

departmental support for the Hospitality Services team at large.

  • Project a positive image in the community.
  • Performs safety related maintenance work as assigned.
  • Provide services as outlined in the document Safety and Support Services Principle Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Providing quality service in a friendly, courteous and hospitable manner.
  • Interact courteously and compassionately with all residents, Co-Workers, guests, visitors and students at The Center at Donaldson.
  • Assist residents, Co-Workers, guests, visitor and students in areas deemed hazardous and/or identification of areas where limited access is necessary for safety and security reasons.
  • Provide support in operating the Proximity system as trained and assigned.
  • Covers the main switchboard reception area to relieve the receptionist for meals and breaks.
  • Humanely catch and release any bats that are spotted in the Motherhouse.
  • Serve on committees as assigned. 
  • Assure that the established quality expectations are achieved.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly Safety and Support Services office.
  • Maintain surveillance and security on The Center at Donaldson property. Specific areas are: Catherine Kasper Home, Maria Center, Lindenwood Villa, Ancilla College, the Motherhouse, all other outer homes, Ancilla Beef and Grain Farm, the Waste Water Treatment Plant, the Boiler house, all pump houses, both upper and lower garages and the Iron Filtration plant as well as all properties owned by PHJC in this immediate area.       
  • Report any unusual or suspicious activity to the Executive Director, Hospitality Services. 
  • Initiates appropriate incident report to document unusual activity.

 

SPECIFICATIONS:

Prior Education and Training:

  • Level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of high school education or equivalent. 
  • Basic EMT certification preferred or willingness to obtain required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills normally acquired through extensive public contact experience.

 

Prior Work Experience/Skills Required:

  • Experience in safety and security related area preferred.
  • Must be able to effectively deal with persons in stressful situations while remaining calm.
  • Must be able to remain under control and to exercise good judgment in emergency crisis type situations.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and prepare thorough written incidents reports.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Ability to use sound judgment at all times during the performance of duties in such a manner as to avoid damage to equipment, property, or cause bodily harm to self or others. 
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds for a short distance.
  • Ability to push wheeled cart of approximately 50 pounds for a short distance.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, push, pull, rake and dig as well as twisting, and spending long periods of time on one’s feet may be a part of this position.

 

On-the-Job Training/Orientation Required:

  • Completion of new Co-Worker orientation. 
  • Attends in-service education programs in emergency procedures, fire, disaster, infection control, and safety.

 

Other Position Requirements:

  • Must have valid Indiana Driver’s License.  
  • Must be available to be on call for emergencies during evening, night and weekend hours.
  • Must be willing to work some holidays based on a rotation within the department.

 

Environmental Conditions:

  • Exposure to persons that may be abusive and/or combative.
  • Must be in good physical condition and be able to respond to emergency situations that may involve running or climbing stairs as well as the possibility of needing to help lift persons in an evacuation situation. 

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:

  • Operation of motor vehicles as required performing job responsibilities.
  • Floor Scrubbers, Carpet extractors, dust mops, wet mops and other environmental related tools.
  • Maintenance tools such as screw drivers, hammers, drills, plungers, wrenches and ladders.
  • Computers
