What will I be doing day-to-day?

We’re looking for a hands‑on, outcomes‑driven Development Manager to lead our software development function. You’ll combine technical leadership with people leadership—owning delivery excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement of our development practice.

As part of the senior leadership team, you’ll align development objectives with business goals and guide a high-performing support team to deliver outstanding customer experiences. You’ll work closely with the Principal Architect to champion innovation and adapt to evolving development landscapes, particularly with AI.

If you're passionate about leading with purpose, building strong teams, and driving development excellence, we'd love to hear from you.

Main Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide technical leadership: Deliver scalable, maintainable, and performant software solutions, ensuring architectural decisions align with business goals, delivery timelines, and capacity.

  • Partner closely with the Principal Architect: Embed engineering best practices—code standards, tooling, CI/CD, DevOps—and to incorporate generative AI and modern automation into day‑to‑day delivery.

  • Drive the product roadmap: Collaborate with Product, QA, and Client‑facing teams—translating business needs into clear development initiatives that resonate with customers.

  • Plan and allocate resources across workstreams: Balance scope, budget, and risk; monitor delivery KPIs (e.g., sprint delivery, re‑work) and use insights to improve throughput and quality.

  • Own the software development lifecycle: From planning through release in agile and hybrid environments; act as a key liaison between technical teams and non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Build and grow a high‑performing team: Through mentorship, coaching, structured career pathways, and thoughtful recruitment—fostering a customer‑first, service‑oriented culture.

  • Collaborate Across Functions: Work closely with Product, Customer Support, and Professional Services to align support with broader business and customer goals.

  • Ensure Financial Accountability: Monitor developments costs, contribute to forecasting, and ensure accurate tracking of billable work and customer configurations.

We’d love to chat if you have:

  • 5+ years in a senior/lead developer leadership role with responsibility for leading a team of developers.

  • A bachelor’s degree in computing science or a related discipline (class 2:1 or higher).

  •  Deep understanding of modern development lifecycles (Agile/Scrum/Kanban) and CI/CD.

  • Practical knowledge of deployment architectures, cloud services, and cost/performance trade‑offs.

  • Familiarity with build pipelines, version control, containerisation, and automated testing.

  • Awareness of software security best practices and regulatory considerations (e.g., GDPR).

  • Strong product mindset—comfort with roadmap planning, backlog grooming, and aligning technical delivery to product goals.

  • Proven ability to inspire and develop team members, give clear feedback, and build healthy team culture.

  • Excellent planning and execution skills (sprint management, risk mitigation, resource allocation).

  • Sound judgement—able to make timely, data‑informed decisions and balance tech debt with feature delivery.

  • Clear communication with stakeholders at various levels (technical and non‑technical).

Values

We value people with a growth mindset who listen, learn, and seek to improve.  Successful people in our team listen, support, and value their colleagues, communicating openly and honestly, taking pride in their work, and focussing on meeting the needs of our customers and our business.

Be inspired, be valued, and be part of something extraordinary with us.
