Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Scientist, you will support the shelf-life program from coordinating sample storage to testing in the laboratory. You will analyze the composition of food products, conduct experiments, gather data and findings, and prepare written reports to ensure compliance to nutritional labeling specifications, regulatory guidance's, and food safety standards. You may also be asked to develop new analytical methods.
Position Responsibilities·
- Under direct guidance manage the shelf-life program including sample inventory, storage and distribution of products for testing.
- Perform chemical and organoleptic analysis to support product quality attributes.
- Design and execute accelerated experiments to predict product shelf-life.
- Assess the risk of product quality failure of new products or packaging, calculate and interpret data, and relate to company partners as needed.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with fellow scientists, product developers, and packaging engineers to ensure the goals of the shelf-life program are being met.
- Write, review and identify areas of improvement for test methods and technical procedures, initiate action plans.
- Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment; troubleshoot and repair as needed.
- Maintain clean and organized work area.
- Understand and follow laboratory management system policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of all test work including laboratory notebooks.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field required with 1 year experience.
- Experience with instrument maintenance preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel preferred.
- Technical/scientific report writing skills.
- Sound written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity of food product development, packaging, and food safety preferred.
- Basic knowledge of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with others in a team environment.
- Minimum travel (5%) to plants required.
Physical Requirements (optional)
- Standing for up to 8 hours a day.
- Use of laboratory equipment – balances, pH & water activity meters, titrators, spectroscopy and chromatography instrumentation, and other wet chemistry.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Pushing/pulling laboratory carts.
- Work with solvents/acids/bases in fume hoods.
- Work in cold rooms/freezers and warm rooms with high humidity.

Compensation:
Annual Base Salary: $63,000.00 - $68,000.00The annual salary listed above is the expected offering for this position. An employee’s actual annual salary will be based on but not limited to: location, relevant experience/level and skillset, while balancing internal Conagra employees’ equity. Conagra Brands will comply with applicable law regarding minimum salaries for exempt employees.
