Senior Court Clerks perform advanced clerical support for a large court such as completing and certifying legal documents, conducting research, reviewing financial information, and facilitating communication between parties. Employees oversee courtroom operations to ensure compliance of court activities, rulings, and reporting. Senior Court Clerks direct the clerical and financial record-keeping activities of Court Clerks to ensure the efficient and correct execution of court orders, directives, and policies. Work is completed in an office or courtroom, and employees in this job class report to a higher-level Court Clerk.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Ability to obtain NCIC certification within 6 months of employment.
Experience entering data into a computer system or software program to manage, update, and/or file legal documents (e.g., court orders, case information, sending correspondence).
Experience preparing various reports using spreadsheet software by compiling data (e.g., financial reports, daily reports).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Merit System agencies. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Magistrate Certificate from the Alabama Office of Courts (AOC).
Prior experience working within a court room setting (e.g., regulating flow and order of citizens and cases with the police departments, Judge(s), prosecutors and defense attorneys to efficiently operate the courts).
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Receives, sorts, distributes, notarizes, and/or posts documents related to court proceedings by supplying, scanning, and/or purging records in compliance with record retention laws and/or legal confidentiality.
Acts as a liaison between the court and departments, governmental agencies, and/or other relevant individuals/entities by retrieving and reviewing case files and other records and providing general information on court-related activities in order to respond to inquiries/information requests.
Oversees the administration of courtroom operations by enforcing court procedure and compliance of court activities, rulings, and reports to ensure legal operations of the Court.
Manages payments and billing related to court proceedings by calculating and collecting payments, maintaining financial documentation, and reviewing finances using information related to case files and court proceedings to ensure legal compliance and fulfillment of financial obligations to the Court.
Participates in trial processes by performing legal research using case files, reports, updates to legislation, and/or the Code of Alabama in preparation and administration of court proceedings.
Manages data and information systems including sensitive materials by entering, searching, and/or updating records to be retained or communicated to select parties using applicable court records management software, databases, or hardcopy files.
Acts as a lead worker of peer or support staff by assigning and reviewing work tasks, facilitating training, and providing feedback using policies, procedures, tools, and directives from management in order to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with established requirements.
Participates in Probate Court operations by recording, certifying, and maintaining records and legal documentation related to judicial activities brought before Probate Court in accordance with state laws mandated by the Probate Court Recording department to ensure legal operations of the Court.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Job may require working in an office environment. Work involves use of standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, copier). Job may require working with angry/irate customers or citizens.EEO STATEMENT:
