JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for receiving, reviewing, and underwriting business loans for the Commercial Loan Department. Identify, analyze, and evaluate business documents, and review credit standards to determine creditworthiness. Communicate underwriting decisions based on credit standards and procedures. Communicate with businesses to explain credit policies and to obtain additional loan information and documentation. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Management of a small portfolio of SBA and commercial relationships. 
  • Perform underwriting duties and consult with Relationship Managers and prospects/ clients to validate new/renewal loan requests.
  • Work with Relationship Managers in accurately and completely detailing the strengths and weaknesses of the loan requests.
  • Organize documentation for credit analysis and approval.
  • Responsible for inputting information into a financial spreading software, pulling credit reports and UCC searches, completing ancillary reviews, competing credit scoring and administrative duties.
  • Pre-qualify credit requests (preliminary) or escalate to Credit.
  • Maintains ticklers to ensure documentation and covenants are kept up to date. 
  • Reviews Letters of Interests and Loan Applications for accuracy and completion.
  • Works consultatively with team members to present solutions to their short and long-term strategic objectives. 
  • Partners with branch staff to support servicing and retention of existing clients and on boarding of new clients.

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Small Business Administration Lending experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Small Business Administration (SBA) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Policies.
  • Ability to review personal or business financial statements and tax returns (commercial and individual).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
  • Customer service focused on the ability to listen to customer needs and recommend solutions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of loan structuring across a broad spectrum of product and loan types. 
  • Ability to properly structure SBA 7a and 504 loans, being cognizant of the Bank’s SBA Loan Guidelines, Bank Loan Policy, and SBA regulations.
  • Requires knowledge of office practices, procedures, and general office machines.

Education/Licenses/Work Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting.
  • Requires a minimum of one to three years of underwriting experience in SBA 7a and 504.
  • Knowledge of software utilized in the underwriting of SBA 7a and 504 loans.
  • Computer skills to include the use of Windows and Microsoft software products and other programs as required.
  • Must be able to prepare documents and compose business letters and memorandums.

Work Environment 

  • Standard office environment with a moderate noise level.

  • Regularly required to communicate verbally with employees, clients, and vendors.
