Purpose of Position:

Provide leadership for the IÑUA Department and direct all departmental activities; provide supervision for the IÑUA’s Department’s Outreach Coordinator; track program outcomes, revise for effectiveness, and develop and present reports for supervisor and Board of Directors.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate ongoing, sustainable, effective suicide prevention activities and promotional campaigns within a cultural context.
  2. Secure and analyze suicide data and trends for targeted education campaigns.
  3. Work with regional communities and establish collaborations with tribal leadership and city governments to develop and provide wellness and prevention education, increase referrals, and improve access to all NSHC services.
  4. Solicit for and secure outside funding designated for communities to establish own programs/activities.
  5. Develop and provide follow-up strategies and activities to those who present at the ER/Hospital/Clinics/etc. with suicidal concerns.
  6. Develop, coordinate, and schedule a prevention workforce to implement regional prevention activities.
  7. Develop and implement an evaluation program to analyze prevention efforts for effectiveness.
  8. Collaborate with local (e.g. education system), regional, and state partners on prevention activities and strategies.
  9. Assist in and advocate for all aspects of mental health promotion, education, information, and community development related to suicide prevention.
  10. Support youth and their families at high risk for suicide by providing education, advocacy, and applying knowledge of prevention programs to enhance protective factors against risks.
  11. Work collaboratively and respectfully with existing mental/behavioral health providers and other health professionals such as Doctors, Nurses, and social workers.
  12. Function as a liaison in making appropriate referrals and completing warm handoffs within the service system for ongoing engagement of youth and their families at risk for suicide.

Minimum Requirements

Education

Associate Degree 

Program Organizational Development, Rural Development, Human Service education or related field
