Position Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Director of Nursing and Therapy Services to join our team. This key leadership role involves supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of nursing, therapy (OT/PT/SLP), and dietary services. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director to ensure service excellence, regulatory compliance, and person-centered care across all programs.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Clinical Oversight & Support: Implement safe, person-centered protocols and clinical interventions in collaboration with professional staff. Consult with the Medical Director and interdisciplinary teams to address emerging clinical concerns.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor quality indicators across nursing, therapy, and dietary services. Identify service gaps, recommend corrective actions, and participate in audits to ensure regulatory and accreditation standards are met.
  • Program Coordination: Coordinate healthcare and therapy-related initiatives, including infection control, staff wellness efforts, and interdisciplinary team planning. Develop new procedures and process improvements to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Staff Supervision and Development: Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and coaching to assigned staff. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and evaluating staff performance. Foster a team environment that promotes professional growth and high performance.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely medical documentation across nursing and therapy services. Adhere to agency protocols and support staff in maintaining quality records.
  • Training and Professional Development: Plan and deliver staff education and training in collaboration with the Director and Human Resources. Provide or coordinate in-service sessions on clinical practices, policies, or emerging healthcare topics.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with people supported, families, external providers, and internal stakeholders. Serve as a liaison in the Director’s absence and represent the department in assigned meetings or initiatives.
  • Operational Support: Assist with budgeting, productivity tracking, and resource planning. Participate in data collection and reporting that supports departmental goals and organizational planning.
 
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution; current RN licensure in the State of CT required (must be willing to obtain NY RN licensure)
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive clinical experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary rehabilitation, residential, or developmental disability settings strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with clinical documentation and medication administration systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, person-centered care, and team-based service delivery.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing continuing education and professional development.
