The Town of Brookline is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Preservation Planner to join our Planning and Community Development team. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator with deep knowledge of historic preservation practices and regulations, demonstrated ability to engage with the community, and the organizational skills to lead complex preservation initiatives. Brookline�s historic architecture, landscapes, and cultural resources are central to the Town�s character, and this position plays a critical role in preserving and protecting those assets for current and future generations.

What You�ll Do
- Administer the Town�s Local Historic District and Demolition Delay Bylaws, including application review, public hearings, and compliance.
- Evaluate buildings and landscapes for significance and eligibility for local, state, or national designation.
- Provide staff support to the Preservation Commission, including preparing agendas, minutes, reports, and public notices.
- Collaborate with other Town departments and state/federal agencies on design review and historic preservation planning.
- Assist residents, property owners, and developers with preservation best practices, restoration, and available grant funding.
- Maintain the Town�s Certified Local Government status and submit required reports to the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
- Lead public education and outreach programs, such as walking tours, publications, and cultural history initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor preservation planning staff.
- Research, prepare, and manage preservation grants.
- Performs all other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor�s degree in historic preservation or related field and 3�5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; Master�s degree strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of historic preservation regulations, architectural history, and cultural/landscape resources.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and assess historic significance.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Experience working with property owners, boards/commissions, and community groups.
- Valid driver�s license required.
