Position Overview:

The Baler – Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of baler equipment to compress and bind cardboard for recycling. This role supports warehouse operations by ensuring materials are processed properly, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and following strict safety protocols. The operator performs basic machine setup, adjustments, and troubleshooting to ensure consistent performance while handling and moving bales to designated staging areas.



Key Responsibilities:


1. Baler Operation & Material Handling

  • Operate baler machine to compress and bind cardboard.
  • Break down cardboard and prepare materials for recycling.
  • Open chamber doors and safely remove completed bales.
  • Transport bales from the baler area to the designated staging area.


2. Machine Setup & Maintenance

  • Set up and operate baler equipment per job requirements.
  • Perform basic adjustments and troubleshooting to maintain proper machine performance.
  • Ensure equipment is kept in safe working order and immediately report issues.


3. Workplace Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all prescribed safety procedures and regulations.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including glasses, sleeves, gloves, and safety vest.
  • Maintain work area in a clean, organized, and hazard-free condition.


4. Additional Duties:

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Reporting Structure:

  • Reports directly to the Facility Maintenance Coordinator.
  • This position has no direct reports.



Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience operating baler or similar warehouse/machine equipment preferred. Experience working in a warehouse or distribution environment is a plus.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Ability to read and write instructions is required.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive motions such as bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling of parts and containers. Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Must be able to work in an open warehouse environment with varying weather and temperature conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, and cold.
  • Attention to Detail & Safety: Ability to follow written instructions, maintain focus during repetitive tasks, and adhere to all safety standards and procedures is required.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands listed below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Mobility: Ability to move freely within warehouse environment, including on concrete floors and around active equipment.
  • Standing & Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time throughout the shift.
  • Lifting & Carrying: Frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Posture & Motion: Regular bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Vision & Hearing: Adequate visual and auditory acuity for operating machinery, monitoring equipment, and following safety signals.
  • Work Environment: Warehouse setting with exposure to moderate noise, temperature changes, and moving equipment.



Travel Requirements:

This position does not have any travel requirements.
