Connected Logistics seeks a highly skilled Power BI Subject Matter Expert (Microsoft) to support a government client in the design, development, and optimization of advanced business intelligence solutions.
The Power BI SME will be responsible for creating interactive dashboards, building complex data models, and integrating data from multiple sources to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Power BI tools, data visualization best practices, and federal data governance standards. This role requires advanced and strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This is a hybrid position that requires on-site work in or around the Frederick, Maryland area. Monthly travel to Fort Hood may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Dashboard & Report Development
· Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports tailored to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and organizational objectives.
· Develop compelling data visualizations that tell clear, meaningful stories to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Apply UX/UI best practices to create intuitive and user-friendly analytics interfaces.
Data Modeling & Integration
· Construct complex dimensional data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake) to support advanced analytics and reporting needs.
· Integrate and transform data from multiple structured and unstructured sources while ensuring data quality, consistency, and alignment with governance standards.
· Build and optimize DAX calculations and Power Query (M) transformations for efficient and scalable performance.
BI Strategy & Optimization
· Conduct audits of existing Power BI assets, identifying opportunities for performance improvement, standardization, and refactoring.
· Define and maintain a strategic roadmap for data visualization initiatives, including project timelines, milestones, and long-term goals.
· Collaborate with client's units to translate evolving data needs into scalable BI solutions.
Collaboration & Governance
· Work closely with senior leaders and data analyst teams to gather requirements, validate data, and align reporting solutions with business goals.
· Ensure cybersecurity and data protection compliance, especially when handling CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information) and sensitive data.
· Document data sources, workflows, and dashboard logic to support system sustainability, user training, and audit readiness.
· Bachelor Science Computer or Data Science.
Technical Expertise
· 7+ years of advanced proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query (M), dataflows, and workspace management.
· Demonstrated experience with data modeling concepts such as facts, dimensions, relationships, and normalization.
· Solid experience with relational databases and data warehousing principles.
· Strong skills in data profiling, cleansing, classification, and information filtering.
· Experience in connecting Palantir Foundry products (e.g. Vantage, Maven) a plus.
Analytical & Statistical Tools
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, Power Pivot).
· Experience using SAS or similar statistical software for data analysis and visualization is a strong plus.
