POSITION TITLE: TRANSPORTATION DISPATCHER | DEPARTMENT TRAINER
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma
· Ability to react effectively in crisis and demanding situations
· Ability to make decisions
· Record keeping skills
Desirable Qualifications:
· Knowledge of streets and roads in the Dubuque Community School District
· Knowledge of the operations of the school district
· Knowledge of computers, windows software, and applicable technology
· Ability to acquire and maintain a commercial driver’s license and school bus permit
· School bus driving experience and ELDT certification in training
BASIC FUNCTION:
To enable each student, through the safe and efficient assigning and dispatching of vehicles and personnel, to take advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities of the schools within the district. To enhance the efficient, orderly and business-like operations of the Transportation Department daily.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Acquire and maintain a current knowledge of all roads and streets within the Dubuque Community School District.
2. Acquire and maintain a current knowledge of roads and streets in the Tri-State area for activities, athletic, and field trips/work.
3. Dispatch personnel and vehicles assigned to the Transportation Department.
4. Act as liaison with families, school and Transportation Department personnel, and the community.
5. Schedule, assign and bid all activity, athletic, and field trips/work.
6. Coordinate with the garage staff the schedule of bus assignments and road-call service.
7. Re-route vehicles in emergency situations and/or when weather and roadway conditions warrant re-routing.
8. Assist in maintaining current and accurate back-up driver routes.
9. Assist in assessing road and weather conditions.
10. Assist in the development of routes and time schedules.
11. Assist in the completion of Department clerical work.
12. Assist in the development and maintenance of record systems for all bus routes, employees, students eligible for transportation, pay riders, mileage limits, and student rosters.
13. Maintain attendance records of all employees.
14. Maintain a daily log of Department operations.
15. Training new employees (Drivers/Attendants) in policies and procedures and Drivers obtaining their CDL with P and S endorsement.
16. Should have ELDT training certification or be able to obtain certification after being hired.
17. Assume responsibility for assigned reports, correspondence, telephone and radio communications.
18. Assist with transportation budgeting, accounting, and state/federal reports.
19. Apply knowledge of computer and technology applications.
20. Maintain confidentiality of records and reports.
21. Assist with telephone calls and complaints.
22. Perform such additional duties as may be requested by the Transportation Manager.
23. Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural gender - fair policies and practices.
24. Perform back-up bus driver/attendant duties when the
