OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

BASIC FUNCTION
The Occupational Therapist functions as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide an appropriate program for selected and eligible students with disabilities; provide occupational therapy assessment, planning, goal development; provide appropriate intervention services to assist special needs students in acquiring functional performance skills; and perform other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Evaluates student performance in a variety of areas including fine motor tasks, oral dysfunction, sensory impairments, perceptual motor skills, posture and movement;
• Formulate and implement an individual treatment plan as it relates to the assessment, educational implications and IEP goals and objectives;
• Recommends methods and strategies to address student needs for therapy services;
• Collaborates with medical personnel and multidisciplinary team members in interpreting and implementing therapy service;
• Collaborates with teachers and support staff regarding activities to support and or reinforce student occupational therapy needs;
• Communicate and collaborate with other staff and family members as a means of effectively infusing therapy activities in home and school so as to optimize the overall program and progress of the student;
• Provide direct training and assistance to support staff directly involved with a student;
• Maintain safe equipment and therapy environment;
• Re-evaluates students’ individual occupational therapy plans on a regular basis;
• Develops and reviews student goals and objectives in accordance with each student’s
Individualized Education Plan (IEP);
• Maintains appropriate records and documents related to individual assessment and services;
• Attends IEP meetings as necessary and maintains progress notes of student records;
• Other duties as assigned appropriate to the position.

KNOWLEDGE OF
• Sensory integration theory and application in the treatment of autism, PDD and associated regulatory disorders;
• An understanding of developmental foundations and neurodevelopment implications as related to learning/behaviors and educational success;
• Clear understanding of the difference of an educational versus medical model in determining appropriate school based therapy services;
• Understanding of state and federal regulations, guidelines and time lines.

REQUIREMENTS
• Baccalaureate or higher degree with emphasis on occupational therapy;
• Valid license from the State of California and registration by the American Occupational Therapy Association;
• One year work experience in a school setting serving students with disabilities preferred;
• Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• ENVIRONMENT:
o Office environment.
• PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
o Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations;
o Seeing to read and review student case files and health records;
o Sitting for extended periods of time.


Requirements / Qualifications

One year work experience in a school setting serving students with disabilities preferred. All applicants must submit a resume and letter of introduction.

Salary Info

Salary Range: $65,169.00 - $133,849.00* (includes OT factor 1.12) *UUSD will accept 9 years of experience from outside candidates.
