GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the general direction of the Redevelopment Director, develops and coordinates logistics associated with implementation of community events, festivals, and programs to promote economic development, a sense of community, and the quality of life in the City of Midvale.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plans and organizes assigned City and RDA events, which may include but are not limited to Los Muros On Main Mural Festival, Harvest Days, Trick or Treat on Main Street, and Light Up Main. This includes organization, budgeting, contracting, scheduling, advertising, coordination of staff and volunteers, setup/take-down, and all other functions associated with event planning and operations.
- Provides coordination of the technical needs of City and RDA events including administering contracts, purchasing materials, obtaining necessary permits, arranging security and parking, and soliciting vendors and sponsors.
- Coordinate event and program use with appropriate facility manager.
- Work with City and RDA staff to fully understand and provide input on facilities, venues, and locations of events and programs. This includes providing input on improvements, maintenance and best practice of facility and venue management and operations.
- Work closely and maintain positive working relationships with Parks, Public Works, Police, Fire, and other city departments to coordinate event needs.
- Actively recruit businesses and organizations to provide sponsorship and marketing of city events and programs.
- Work closely with other outside agencies and citizen groups to coordinate events. Build and maintain positive relationships within the community to facilitate more community participation and highly successful events.
- Facilitate an environment that encourages interdepartmental cooperation.
- Plan, market, implement and evaluate community events and programs.
- Implement programs within approved budget guidelines and assure cost recovery targets are achieved.
- Manage community events and program registration, participation and completion using available software and online programs.
- Meet performance standards established with the employee's manager.
- Job attendance is required, except for authorized leave.
- Performs other duties as directed (duties are not limited to those listed above).
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Exempt Status While the schedule of the employee in this position is flexible, the following is expected to ensure availability and coverage within the department and duties are accomplished.
- Arrive for the workday no later than 8:00 a.m. unless extenuating circumstances dictate otherwise.
- Ensure that work product is complete/up to date.
- All time off in excess of 2 hours must be approved by the department director or designee.
- Employee shall take into consideration their availability to the general public, developers, and other employees.
- The City's adoption of a 10-hour 4-day work week provides for services to the public until 6:00 p.m. It is expected that this time is covered by this position.
- Due to the nature of events, it is anticipated that this position may be required to work weekends and evenings in order to work with committees, public, staff and vendors to plan, coordinate, oversee and manage City and RDA events and programs. Schedule and hours will be approved by the department director or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major coursework involving event planning, recreation management, communications, public relations, or related field and two to three years of related experience in the above job duties, Or an equivalent combination of education and experience in related position.
- Special Qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Utah State driver's license with periodic verifications by the City.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and procedures in the delivery of community events and service programs, common events, recreational and social needs of various age groups, principles and procedures for implementing and directing community events, principles and practices of event and program budget monitoring, and principles and practices of assigning and reviewing the work of others.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and Microsoft products.
- Skill in working with diverse groups, individuals, youth, and children, in interpersonal conflict/dispute resolution methods, and organization and implementation of programs and activities in a professional manner.
- Ability to develop and coordinate community events or recreation programs suited to the needs of the community; plan, organize, coordinate and implement community events; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; analyze, interpret, and explain section policies and procedures; communicate effectively orally and in writing; train and evaluate contract and temporary personnel; prepare detailed reports and other written material; provide office support, answer phones, and interact with the public.

- Working Conditions: Employee(s) in this position generally performs both in the office and on-site. Non-traditional working hours are required. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to the performance of the job. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exist. Mental application makes use of memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance. Periodic exposure to weather extremes.
