The Opportunity
Are you passionate about protecting consumer rights and driving public trust? NSW Fair Trading is seeking a dynamic and experienced executive to lead the uplift of its consumer protection function.

As our new Executive Director, Consumer Affairs, you’ll bring energy, vision, and decisive leadership to a newly restructured space. Reporting directly to the NSW Fair Trading Commissioner, you’ll help shape the future of consumer regulation in NSW—building high-performing teams, driving strategic projects, and ensuring NSW leads the nation in safeguarding consumers.

From tackling scams and fraudulent traders to improving product safety (like lithium-ion batteries in e-bikes), your work will directly impact the lives of millions.

Key Focus Areas

  • Strategic Reform: Establish and uplift the consumer protection branch with a clear mandate for excellence
  • Public Advocacy: Represent Fair Trading in media and forums, building its public profile and trust
  • Team & Culture Building: Shape a newly structured division, fostering a culture of integrity and impact
  • Regulatory Leadership: Take strong, decisive action against non-compliant traders and drive enforcement
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with the ACCC and other regulators to set national benchmarks

The Leader We’re Seeking
You’re a seasoned executive with a strong background in consumer protection, regulation, or advocacy. You bring gravitas, warmth, and clarity to complex issues—and you’re ready to lead from the front.

Your strengths include:

  • Deep expertise in consumer protection and regulatory frameworks
  • Strong communicator with media and public-facing experience
  • Proven leadership in building teams and driving cultural change
  • Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments across government, industry, and community
  • A collaborative, emotionally intelligent approach with a commitment to public service values

Ready to Champion Consumer Rights?
If you’re energised by the opportunity to lead transformative change in consumer protection, we want to hear from you.

To Apply: Submit a combined document containing your CV and cover letter. In your cover letter, outline how your leadership experience and regulatory expertise align with our vision for consumer protection in NSW.
