Job Title: Quality Inspector/Grader
Department: Rough Mill
Reports to: Production Manager
Location: Adirondack Bat Manufacturing Plant - Dolgeville, NY
FLSA Status: Hourly
General Overview: Quality Inspector/Grader is responsible for the safety, quality, and production of grading billets to produce the finest sporting good products. Inspecting and grading billets according to specifications in an accurate and professional manner while working in a safe organized environment in the Rough Mill Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Comply with all safety, quality, job knowledge, attendance, and 6S requirements
- Responsible for grading a billet effectively, efficiently, and accurately.
- Responsible for measuring, weighing, sorting, examining, and organizing billets.
- Complete and maintain grading reports.
- Classifying, labeling, and sorting according to industry standards and compliance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education Required:
- Knowledge and experience working with wood
- Basic skills in math, rulers, calculators, calipers, scales, and clocks.
- Great attention to detail
- Ability to problem solve independently
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent organization skills
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of the process of making a quality bat preferred
- Familiar with Microsoft Office products preferred
Working Conditions: Production work environment
Safety Hazards: Exposure to dust, air borne fibers, dirt, noise, vibrations, chemicals, and solvents. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, sleeves, smocks, and positive pressure full-face hoods are required while performing certain tasks.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedures. Must have good verbal communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts of basic math and reading measurements (fractions and decimals)
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to recognize a situation and escalate clearly. Ability to deal with problems and contribute in problem solving.
