Purpose and Scope 

The Director of Development promotes and represents the work and mission of the Catholic Community Foundation to Catholic institutions (parishes, schools, and other agencies) and individuals in the Diocese of Phoenix. The Director of Development provides leadership and direction in facilitating the growth of the underlying assets of the Foundation. This will be accomplished by developing relationships with current and prospective constituents, leveraging the development team in strategically placing resources, and developing and communicating attractive opportunities to increase donor involvement. 

 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Work with staff in developing and implementing an annual plan detailing specific area of focus, measurable goals, and desired outcomes. 
  • Strategically plan staff placement at events and staff assignments to specific or prospective donors.
  • Grow the funds under management of the Foundation. 
  • Work with key stakeholders in identifying leads of prospective fund holders. 
  • Evaluate staff on an annual basis and evaluate against annual plan created at the beginning of the year. 
  • Maintain an active role in major gifts, legacy planning, fund creation, legacy seminars, gift annuities, and serving as the manager for donors and prospects.
  • Assist in fulfilling event requirements as requested (i.e., obtaining sponsorships, hosts, filling tables, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the CEO and other leadership to develop and implement financial strategy. 
  • Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis of progress to the Board and senior leaders (i.e., number of donor contacts, prospects, promises, etc.). 
  • Ensure that a stewardship process is in place for relationship building and meaningful donor recognition. 
  • Develop and execute clear short-term and long-range plans for development that are both realistic and challenging, with a particular focus on income diversification. 

Requirements

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required 

  • Must be a self-starter and possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication, computer, documentation, and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to be persuasive and influential. 
  • Ability in deadline-driven, detail-oriented environment to multi-task, prioritize, manage time effectively, and make sound decisions. 
  • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools required including advanced Excel skills. 
  • Knowledge of planned giving techniques and vehicles. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in major donor and gift solicitation, or an equivalent combination of related experience. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Demonstrated experience in a position that required leadership skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience in a position that required exceptional written, speaking, and listening skills. 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. 
  • Must be an active, practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
