The Archaeology Program Coordinator oversees multiple project budgets and schedules on a daily basis, making regular field and laboratory visits to maintain control. They also produce grant applications and proposals to secure funding for individual projects. This position may directly oversee field and/or laboratory investigations for individual projects. This position also produces Reports of Investigations and Technical Research Memoranda and coordinate with the Financial Specialist to oversee regular financial needs for their projects. This position also serves as the point of contact for individual project sponsors. 

 

The Archaeology Program Coordinator is also responsible for the public communication of the BCAL’s research. Communications include peer reviewed publications, publications for the general public, presentations at professional conferences, talks to avocational societies, and interviews with media outlets. This position reports directly to the Director and provides (at minimum) monthly updates on all projects under their supervision to the Director. Status of budgets and schedules are included in these updates. The Archaeology Program Coordinator directly supervises student employees conducting field and laboratory operations.

 

In addition to their administrative role, the Archaeology Program Coordinator will teach one class per semester in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology as a separate adjunct faculty contract. 

 

This position will work 30 hours per week. The contract term for this position extends through May 2026, with the potential for renewal.


Responsibilities for the Archaeology Program Coordinator include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct field and lab work for internally and externally funded archaeological projects
  • Supervise and train student employees in the field and lab
  • Prepare archaeological reports of investigations for project sponsors and regulatory agencies
  • Monitor project budgets and process financial transactions
  • Collect and provide data related to projects as needed for reporting, marketing, and dissemination activities
  • Develop resources and support materials for projects
  • Maintain project specific GIS databases

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in archeology, anthropology, or closely related field
  • At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration, or management
  • At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archeology
  • Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion
  • Ability to teach introductory level archaeology courses
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication, organization, and writing skills
  • Strong collaborative skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and GIS software
  • Supervisory experience in cultural resource management
  • Ability to write technical reports and program documents
  • Ability to teach occasional upper-level archaeology course in candidate’s area of expertise
