  • Identify Partner training needs and seek additional resources as needed to further develop partner skills.
  • Maintain training and evaluation records.
  • Prepare Operator tests, evaluations, and ensure successful completion of training activities through Operator tests.
  • Ensure Operator compliance with job specifications for appropriate equipment set-up; confirm compliance of set-ups to the Operational Parameters.
  • Set up and evaluate new SOP’s for use in operation, then submit to the SQF Practitioner.
  • Set up and Update new Operational Parameters in the Production floor system.
  • Ensure production supplies are available to meet the production schedule for each shift.
  • Partner with Facilitators, Shift Managers and Human Resources to select candidates and oversee the training of Operators and Backup Operators.
  • Ensure partner compliance with SOP, SSOP, GMP, Standard Work Procedures, and SQF requirements.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all Salm Partners and USDA sanitation and food safety requirements.
  • Work with OEM’s and other Contract Services for training services.
  • Support Operators in adjusting machines and equipment as needed.
  • Monitor and adjust workflow to ensure well-running operations.
  • Ensure production supplies are available to meet the production schedule for the shift.
  • Analyze and resolve production problems, and assist Partners in resolving work issues.
  • Assist with performing the production duties as needed during the course of the shift as needs dictate.
  • Confer with Maintenance personnel and Operators to resolve equipment problems.
  • Address concerns and communicate major issues to the Facilitators, Shift Managers and Operations Director in a timely manner.
  • Promote a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Actively promote a safe work environment through enforcement of established safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote and maintain safety awareness, and identify and resolves potential safety issues.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are operated in a safe and efficient manner by Operators and Backup Operators at all times.
  • Ensure department personnel follow established Lockout/Tag-out procedures without fail.
  • Support the Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement initiatives of the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is normally required; a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Business, Supervisory Management or related field is preferred.  Prior supervisory or leadership experience and previous work experience in a USDA-regulated ready-to-eat processed food manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.  Solid understanding of meat processing, specifically with ready-to-eat sausage products, and basic knowledge of USDA regulations as they pertain to fully cooked meat & poultry sausage product is required.  Previous experience with Standard Work is strongly preferred.

 

Communication Skills                                                  

Must possess highly effective interpersonal communication skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills.  Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, as well as performance reviews.  Must also have the ability to speak effectively before small groups.  Must listen well, and create an environment of open communication and collaborative problem solving.

 

Computer Skills                                               

Must possess basic computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Previous experience with MAS 500 or related integrated ERP manufacturing software systems is strongly preferred.

 

Mathematical Skills                                         

Must possess strong math skills, with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Must also possess the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and to create and interpret bar graphs and data charts.

 

Reasoning Ability                                            

Must possess the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and the ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.  Strong trouble shooting and problem solving skills are required.  Previous experience applying Root Cause Problem Solving methods is strongly preferred.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the Partner is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. The Partner is occasionally required to use hands for fine manipulation.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.  

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the Partner is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. There is a wide variation of temperatures ranging from 35° F to 100° F in the various production work areas.  The work environment is wet and slippery most times.  The noise level in the production work environment is usually loud.  Partners are required to wear frocks, hairnets, slip-resistant footwear and hearing protection at all times on the production floor.  Gloves, goggles, rain suits, and rubber boots may be required at different times in the course of the work being performed.
