About the Department

Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to review and process departmental cost center accounting activities.

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Reconciles accounts, prepares reports and completes special projects.
• Processes requests for purchase orders and assigns cost centers for payment of invoices.
• Contacts vendors to resolve invoice and billing issues.
• Examines accounting documents and accounts for accuracy and compliance with policies and acceptable accounting standards, makes journal entries, and reconciles and balances accounts.
• Prepares and reviews financial schedules and coordinates finance and accounting projects and programs with departments and external agencies.
• Prepares reports and correspondence, completes special projects, and maintains records and files.
• Reconciles departmental cost centers and accounting activity to ensure accurate reporting of transactions.
• Develops and maintains communication and effective working relationships with metro departments and external agencies and organizations.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Public Administration or related discipline.
• Two (2) years of finance, accounting, budget preparation, budget analysis or financial analysis experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
