Salary Level: MW/5A, $43.80 Hourly wage is based off of 65% of the State of Washington's Prevailing Wage Rates for Pierce County for each craft's applicable prevailing wage 

Union/Days per year:  Maintenance 260 days (8 hrs day)

Additional Information: This is a temporary leave replacement assignment for the 2025-2026 school year.  It is anticipated to work from September 2025 - August 2026, or when employee on leave returns; whichever, comes first.


Position Duties

This position performs a variety of grounds duties to include but not limited to the following: Maintain District lawns, shrubs, trees and fields using appropriate equipment and procedures; assists with installation and maintenance of storm and sanitary lines and drains; assists with moving and hauling of equipment and materials; assists with set-up for special events; and maintains parking areas, driveways, walkways and play areas, as assigned by supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Maintains District lawns, shrubs, trees and athletic fields using appropriate equipment and protocols.

2. Maintains and installs storm and sanitary lines, catch basins, and drains outside of District buildings using appropriate equipment. 

3. Assists with moving and hauling of furniture, equipment, debris, staging, scaffolding, or other materials.

4. Assists with set-up for a variety of special events, i.e, track meets, graduation, or other events as assigned.

5. Maintains parking areas, driveways, walkways and play areas by grading, graveling, grinding, cleaning, power-sweeping, or applying hot or cold patch repairs, as appropriate for surface.

6. Removes snow and ice from driveways, roofs, and parking lots using hand tools, riding equipment and vehicles as appropriate for the task.

7. Supports other crafts as directed, in moving, digging, or jack-hammering, as directed.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

1. Obeys all safety policies including but not limited to all District safety policies requiring the inspection of vehicles and equipment for system safety operation prior to operation; fall restraint policy.

2. Related job duties as assigned.

3. Regular, reliable, predictable, attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.

CONDITIONS

Work involves considerable heavy physical work, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; required to grasp, hold, unlock, open, push, pull, sit, bend, squat, stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb, and/or be mobile; required to use power equipment in cleaning processes; may be required to work in confined spaces and/or climb ladders; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; works requires exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Required to move heavy objects; may travel to various district locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent and one year general grounds or maintenance experience; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

Licenses/Special Requirements

Valid Washington State driver’s license.

Herbicide/Pesticide License

Forklift Certification

Asbestos Supervisor

Asbestos Inspector

Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Skill in minor mechanical and equipment repair.

Ability to understand verbal instructions. 

Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the work. 

Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.

Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects using proper equipment and safety precautions.

Ability to understand written and verbal communications.

Ability to perform heavy physical labor.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds using proper equipment and safety precautions.

Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable and regular attendance.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
