Proposed Schedule: 40 hours per week. Shifts will vary based on the operating hours of the health center to include with an occasional evening and Saturday morning rotation.
Operating Hours: Monday-Thursday 8am-8pm, Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 8am-1pm.
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant provides care to patients under the direction of the responsible Registered Nurse and Provider with a team approach to patient care. Provides age appropriate population specific patient care in a compassionate, caring, culturally and ethnically sensitive manner that promotes the organization’s mission, vision and core values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares the patient by obtaining a complete intake and adhere to the provider’s schedule while maintaining efficiency and accuracy
- Patient preparation and documentation includes a chief compliant, height, weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations and pain level. A peak flow and pulse oximetry is obtained when indicated
- Reviews allergies with reaction documented and reconciles medication list with patient and determines need for medication renewals and preps order for provider approval
- Reviews the patient’s health history to include pertinent preventative, social and past medical conditions; uses available resources for patient education and follow-up care per provider order
- Informs provider of changes in the patients’ health status
- Provides high quality patient care in both urgent care and primary care settings as needed
- Assists with inventory and receipt of medical supplies and equipment
- Adheres to standards, policies and procedures for diagnostic and point of care testing, including specimen collection, quality assurance, documentation in the electronic medical record and patient education
- Participates in Network committees, staff and departmental meetings as assigned
- Contributes to teamwork of the staff and Network while presenting a positive view and patient-minded vision, with patient satisfaction as the continuing goal
- Stays current on relevant standards, policies and procedures, infection control requirements
- Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes medical equipment according to set standards
- Maintains annual competencies and required continuing education for the Medical Assistant Certification
- Monitors compliance with daily/weekly/monthly check lists including stocking of rooms, environmental cleaning and equipment quality control and maintenance
- Supports training of other non-licensed clinical staff
- Enthusiastically serves on various departmental initiatives that support the Mission, Vision and Core Values
- Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the essential functions:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Successfully achieve the Network Medical Assistant Certification within 90-days of signing the job description
- 1-year health care experience; prior experience in ambulatory care preferred
- Current BLS certification required
- Demonstrated computer competencies including electronic medical record and/or practice management experience
- Knowledge of medical assistant standards of care
- Must be self-directed, detail oriented, motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
The pay rate for this position is $20.40/hour.
