About the Department
The Instructor, Diesel Technology is a part-time, non-benefited position responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in the School of Outreach & Workforce Development. Responsibilities include delivering a range of Diesel Technology courses in non-credit, workshop-style environments. Topics of instruction may include Automotive and Diesel Industrial Safety Standards, Heavy Duty Electrical Systems, Diesel Engines, Diesel Fuel Systems, Emissions, & Diagnostics, Diesel Drivetrain, Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Mobile Hydraulic Technology, Air Brakes, and Suspension and Steering. The diesel instructor is expected to be proficient in all aspects of diesel service and repair and have the ability to demonstrate and supervise a wide variety of diesel technology tasks performed by students in a safe working and learning environment. The instructor will also be responsible for overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of the shop/lab facilities, equipment, tooling used by students in the program, and providing academic support to help students succeed. The instructor must demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering student success through engagement in departmental activities and staying current in the fields of teaching and Diesel Technology through professional development.
The diesel instructor will work in close collaboration with the LCCC Diesel Technology Program and Trades & Technical Studies Pathway staff and faculty.
Compensation: $50.00/hr.

Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – this position is non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).
Teaching and Learning: Employs student-centered instruction coupled with the development and use of appropriate and industry-relevant instructional materials. Consistently and promptly responds to student inquiries and shares timely, appropriate, and instructive feedback and evaluation of student work.
- Maximizes student engagement and success by employing methods that develop student understanding of the values, practice, and procedures within the designated discipline, and by engaging students in interdisciplinary practices to develop 21stcentury learners.
- Prepares and delivers assigned courses by employing high-impact teaching practices in a learning environment that promotes respect and rapport.
- Facilitates student achievement by maintaining clear expectations and defined learning outcomes.
- Promotes learning through the innovative implementation of effective classroom technologies and impactful strategies used in business and industry.
- Maintains professionalism by embodying the values, ethics, and behavior codes of LCCC and one’s discipline.
- Demonstrates social competence and effective communication in professional and academic venues.
- Actively contributes to the college and one’s Pathway, department, or designated discipline by engaging in expanding institutional connections and professional development, and by displaying commitment to the profession.
Other responsibilities may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:- While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required
- There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more to perform essential position functions
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- ASE Certified Master Technician in Medium/Heavy Trucks or the ability to attain
- Associates Degree in Automotive, Diesel, or closely related field of study
- Two years’ experience as a diesel technician, technical Instructor/trainer, or related profession
In lieu of the required degree, candidates with equivalent professional experience, industry certifications, or a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver License and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider
- Experience with web-based learning management systems
- Two or more years of college-level, or technical Industry teaching experience
- Experience in the modern Diesel Technology service and repair industry as it pertains to vehicles and equipment less than 10 years old
