The Referee is responsible for officiating games, enforcing the rules of the sport, ensuring fair play, and maintaining control of the competition. This position requires strong decision-making skills, the ability to remain impartial under pressure, and effective communication with players, coaches, and fellow officials.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Officiate games in accordance with the official rules and regulations of the sport.
- Make quick, accurate, and impartial decisions regarding gameplay, penalties, and violations.
- Maintain a safe and fair playing environment for all participants.
- Communicate rulings clearly to players, coaches, and scorekeepers.
- Manage game flow, including timekeeping and stoppages as required.
- Monitor player conduct and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Collaborate with other officials and game staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Attend pre-game and post-game meetings as required.
- Maintain knowledge of rules, mechanics, and updates through training and certifications.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of the sport’s rules and regulations.
- Certification or licensure (if required by the sport/league).
- Strong observational and decision-making skills.
- Ability to remain calm and authoritative in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina to keep up with the pace of play.
- Prior officiating experience (preferred, but may vary depending on level).
Work Environment:
- Work is performed on playing fields, courts, or arenas.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required depending on the schedule.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions for certain sports.
