PRESCHOOL TEACHER I

School-Day/School-Year Preschool Classroom

GENERAL STATEMENT


The District seeks to hire a Preschool Teacher I for the school-day/school-year preschool classroom at Victoria Soto Preschool. The program is grant-funded. The teacher will plan and implement learning activities that promote the social, physical and intellectual growth of preschool children in cooperation with other program staff, including a Preschool Teacher II.  The teacher will work under the direction of the Director of Preschool Programs.

 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 

• Develop lesson plans and prepare materials for children’s learning activities.
• Knowledge of ELDS and CTDOTS.
• Conduct learning activities with children.
• Assess, record and report children’s progress and use the results of assessment to plan activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean and orderly learning environment.
• Engage parents and promote communication through progress notes, newsletters and parent meetings and conferences.
• Participate in school meetings and events before, during or afterschool hours as required.
• Keep supervisor informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children.

• Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, child development – family studies, early childhood special education or elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education
• Successful teaching experience at the early childhood and/or kindergarten levels
• Familiarity with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation
• Knowledge of teaching strategies appropriate to age level
• Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills

• Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
• Work is primarily in a classroom environment.  Preschool classrooms are dynamic with a high level of activity. Incumbent must be able to lift 40 pounds. Other physical demands as specified in job description.
