Job Description

Performs highly responsible, technical, and specialized regulatory support in a deadline-oriented environment that requires a thorough, full-working knowledge of the regulatory permitting process, data, files, and documents. Requires hands-on knowledge of regulatory rules, procedures and requirements including applicable Florida statutes and administrative codes.
Functions include custodial responsibility for permit files and documents that are part of the district’s public records function, and custodial responsibility for maintenance of the regulatory database. Utilizes electronic submissions systems, data archiving and retrieval systems; conducts record searches, data collection, analysis and compilation of documents for archiving and retrieval. Maintains filing system and database information; supports the development of documentation standards, templates, and procedures related to the formatting, publishing, and archiving of regulatory records and information.

Accountable for support of the permitting process including the initiation, processing, and maintenance of legal documents, correspondence, and drawings. Assists with permit application process and tracks progress of permit applications. Calculates fees and performs initial review of applications for regulatory compliance. Prepares, mails, and tracks certified notices required to obtain permits. 

Position also requires the ability to manage multiple priorities within a deadline-driven environment working with District staff at all levels, the regulated community and the public. Work requires interaction with federal, state, and local entities relative to permit processing and compliance.

Employment Guidelines/Experience:

Associate's degree in business and office administration or related field and 4+ years' experience of progressively responsible administrative work in a permitting, regulatory or compliance office environment.


License(s) / Certification(s): 

Valid State of Florida Driver’s License

Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:

Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. 

Work requires lifting up to 30 lbs. (boxes).

Mostly sedentary in an office environment sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products.
