Position Overview
The Yard Truck Operator is responsible for the internal movement and positioning of trailers within the facility’s yard in support of daily shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations. This position requires the safe operation of yard trucks to transfer trailers between designated dock doors, staging areas, and trailer parking zones. Operators are expected to perform required vehicle inspections, adhere to established yard management procedures, and comply with all applicable safety and operational guidelines. All tasks must be carried out in a manner that maintains traffic flow, supports efficient logistics operations, and minimizes risk to personnel and equipment.
How You’ll Help Us Improve Healthcare
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate yard trucks to move trailers to and from dock doors, yard locations, and trailer staging areas as directed by warehouse or yard management.
- Back trailers into dock doors accurately and safely, ensuring proper alignment and stability.
- Conduct pre- and post-shift equipment inspections; document and report any defects or safety concerns according to company policy.
- Maintain awareness of trailer locations and ensure proper documentation and communication of trailer moves.
- Verify trailer numbers, condition, seal integrity, and readiness before and after movement.
- Maintain yard organization by positioning trailers in designated zones and ensuring clear access to operational lanes and emergency routes.
- Comply with all safety policies, including proper use of PPE, speed limits, and awareness of pedestrian and forklift traffic.
- Respond to changing priorities and assist with special trailer movements or yard configurations as needed.
A Few Things About You
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing, with a clean driving record.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of inventory counts and order picking.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for inventory counts, order preparation, and shipping.
- Experience with warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts (or the willingness to get certified), hand trucks and cardboard bailer is a plus.
- Ability to work well within a team environment and take direction from supervisors.
- Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Previous warehouse or logistics experience is preferred.
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) or basic inventory software is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move products up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Physical ability to operate equipment and machinery such as pallet jack, hand trucks, cardboard bailer, and forklift (upon training and certification)
- Comfort with working in a warehouse setting, including exposure to various environmental conditions (temperature, noise, etc.).
