Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Senior Quality Inspector (Mechanical) is responsible for ensuring that all welded, painted, and coated products meet established quality standards, codes, and specifications. This role focuses on mechanical inspection activities, including weld quality, surface preparation, coating application, and final finish. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and fabrication inspections as required during the fabrication, paint and assembly processes. Some travel to local vendors will be required. 

  • Perform and document non-conformance reports (NCRs) and collaborate with production to resolve issues.

  • Maintain all quality control records and inspection documentation.

  • Host customers and third-party inspectors to release hold points and witness points per the inspection and test plan.

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects related to subject areas. 

  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and promote a culture of safety within the inspection team.

  • Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Trade School certificate.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in welding and coatings inspection in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have either the NACE Level II Coating Inspector certification or CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector certification. 

  • Working knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW) and paint/coating application methods.Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.

  • Familiarity with applicable standards (CSA, AWS, ASME, SSPC, NACE).

  • Experience in heavy manufacturing or industrial fabrication.

  • Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards related to welding and coatings.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor other inspectors.

 

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.

  • Required to always wear personnel protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses and respirators) when required.

  • Working at a desk and computer in an office environment is required.

  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.

  • Working at heights is usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.

  • Continuous standing, walking 50–300-foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.

  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.

  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.

  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
