Job Summary 

The Director of Human Resources will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. Primary function of the Director of Human Resources is to coordinate HR policies and programs with emphasis on the benefits and compensation areas, ensuring that the organization is in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. In addition, the position works closely with the VP of Human Resources in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs, functions and activities.  


Essential Duties   

· Manages benefits admin and LOA process for all employees in the company.

· Acts as coach and mentor to employees and managers at site.

· Supports local team through performance evaluation process and provides constructive and timely feedback. 

· Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 

· Provides support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.

· Plan, direct and supervise all activities relating to the administration and maintenance of payroll and employee benefits programs. Develop, implement and control programs in a manner that ensures cost effectiveness, market competitiveness and internal equity among employees.

· Administer benefits programs, including conducting analyses and serving as primary contact with providers (including group health and life), workers' compensation, unemployment and retirement plans.

· Assist the VP of Human Resources in the daily administration of other HR services as directed or assigned, including recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, contract negotiation and administration, affirmative action/EEO compliance, job classification, performance evaluation, and employee relations in accordance with quality management principles and overall objectives of the organization.

· Develop, prepare, generate and analyze ongoing and ad-hoc special reports pertaining to employee personnel information and data, including issues such as benefits costs, staffing levels/deployment, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, applicant tracking, affirmative action/EEO, compensation, promotions, etc. Effectively utilize the data processing system to obtain, store and analyze pertinent data and information.

· Maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting human resource management. Identify trends that could affect organizational objectives and/or operational resources. Interpret appropriate laws and policies and advise management, employees and retirees accordingly.

· Performs other related duties as assigned. 


Required Qualifications 

· Strong knowledge in CA employment laws (for CA site Director of Human Resources role)

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

· Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning employee benefits and payroll.

· Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

· Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Moderate noise can be expected from the office equipment as well as trains and trucks from the plant. This job may occasionally require walks through the industrial plant with exposure to non-controlled temperature and moderate noises.


Physical Requirements 

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
