As a skilled and experienced Laborer, you will help maintain our mitigation sites, public spaces, lagoons/ponds and wetland properties. In this role you will provide care and dedication to ensure our properties remain healthy and successful.

  • You will operate power equipment, including mowing, line trimming, weeding, and tree pruning.

  • You will clear debris with leaf blowers, apply mulch, snow removal, and garbage removal.

  • You will work with weed killing chemicals such as Round Up and Imazypyr to eradicate noxious weeds.

  • You will safely operate a truck and trailer to transport equipment throughout an entire day.

  • You will support other tasks as needed to help crews when other work arises within the field.

  • You will operate 14-pound, 6-foot-long line trimmers, 23-pound backpack blowers, backpack sprayers, 12-pound gas hedge shear, and 24-pound chainsaws in addition to driving a 60-inch riding lawn mower and 48-inch walk behind mower.

  • You will use a telescopic chain saw, weed burning propane torches, 23-pound leaf blowers, 20inch chain saws, industrial woodchipper, aerator, small tractor for loading soil or mulch, mechanical forklift.


  • Experienced – You have two (2) years’ experience in general laborer maintenance.

  • Desired – We hope you have a Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) Pesticide Public Operators license or International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification.

  • Knowledgeable – You are an expert in noxious weed identification and control methods, turf maintenance, identifying and controlling pest damage. Additionally, you are skilled in monitoring irrigation systems to determine whether it is operating efficiently and making necessary adjustments if needed.

  • Customer Focused – You have a strong customer service mindset with both internal and external customers, modeling that behavior for the rest of the team and delivering excellent service under pressure during stressful/emergency situations.

  • Safety Conscious – You are knowledgeable in safety best practices, keeping an eye out for various hazards and immediately correcting unsafe conditions.

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Tuesday – Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.

  • Work Environment – You will work outdoors in all types of weather conditions including areas with potential hazards, which may include, but are not limited to bodies of water, electrical substations, varying degrees of height, confined spaces and during natural disasters/emergencies. Work will be conducted around all facilities maintained by Aviation Maintenance including public spaces and commercial properties

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.

  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.

  • Union Representation – This position is represented by Laborers union, Local 242.
