JOB SUMMARY

As a Senior Philanthropy Officer, you will serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to MAP International's most committed philanthropic donors, delivering meaningful engagement opportunities that inspire generosity, deepen commitment and amplify impact. This role encompasses the responsibility of guiding donors through meaningful philanthropic journeys that align their passions and philanthropic goals with MAP's mission to address critical global health inequities. With a focus on individual revenue and expense goals tied to the assigned portfolio, you will manage your portfolio of rising to signature donors (rising $5,000-$9,999, major $10,000-$99,999, signature $100,000+) ensuring high retention, increased giving, and enhanced donor involvement. By providing personalized engagement, thoughtful stewardship, and compelling investment opportunities for impact, you play a vital role in advancing MAP’s mission and enabling donors to fulfill their vision for global health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT & DONOR INTELLIGENCE

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned donors ensuring high retention, increased giving and deeper engagement.
  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 90-150 rising, major and signature donors (rising $5,000-$9,999, major $10,000-$99,999, signature $100,000+) including individuals, family foundations and organizations.
  • Conduct through prospecting efforts and wealth screening to identify new high-capacity individuals, family foundations and organizations, building a robust pipeline through strategic outreach and early cultivation activities for portfolio optimization.
  • Develop and execute individualized donor engagement strategies that align institutional priorities with donor passions and giving patterns.
  • Implement systematic portfolio reviews and segmentation analysis to maximize donor lifetime value and ensure strategic resource allocation.
  • Maintain MAP’s CRM system, currently Agilon ONE, daily to capture donor interactions and communications to allow for effective reporting, fueling data-driven decision making and cross-departmental collaboration.

REVENUE GENERATION & STRATEGIC FUNDRAISING

  • Design and implement sophisticated major gift portfolio strategies that consistently exceed annual revenue targets while building long-term donor commitment.
  • Build cultivation annual plans that strategically move donors through the engagement pipeline from prospect qualification to gift commitments.
  • Develop compelling, customized funding proposals that clearly articulate impact opportunities, organizational needs, and return on philanthropic investment
  • Utilizes a moves management plan for each donor so that individuals in the portfolio are retained and upgraded.
  • Lead complex gift negotiations and structure creative giving vehicles, multi-year commitments, and other tailored approaches.
  • Partner with internal teams to coordinate messaging, donor materials, and stewardship efforts for consistency and excellence.
  • Collaborate with program staff to evaluate fundable project opportunities and initiatives that resonate with donor interests and demonstrate measurable impact.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects for planned gifts that extend long-term impact through MAP locally and globally.

RELATIONSHIP STEWARDSHIP & DONOR EXPERIENCE

  • Develop relationships with donors to understand passions and communicate MAP’s mission and continuing efforts.
  • Execute comprehensive stewardship programs that demonstrate accountability, transparency, and meaningful impact reporting to ensure donor satisfaction and retention.
  • Conduct regular in-person visits and virtual meetings with donors and partners, ensuring timely follow-up and meaningful connection.
  • Pursue daily contact with portfolio donors through phone calls, emails, and mail to steward gift commitments.
  • Communicate the impact of their giving, invite them to special events and communicate urgent needs.
  • Serve as primary liaison between donors and program staff, ensuring seamless communication of project updates, impact metrics, and organizational developments.
  • Manage donor feedback loops and address concerns proactively to maintain strong relationships and prevent attrition.

STRATEGIC PLANNING & ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Serve as an active member of the Philanthropy team within Global Giving which consists of Philanthropy, Direct Response, and Marketing.
  • Participate in cross-functional team projects focused on donor engagement innovation, stewardship enhancement, and organizational development.
  • Represent MAP at select high-level donor engagements, events and gatherings to deepen relationships with rising, major and signature donors.
  • Represent MAP at external conferences, networking events, and professional development opportunities to enhance organizational visibility and personal expertise.
  • Analyze fundraising metrics and portfolio performance to inform strategic adjustments and identify growth opportunities within existing donor relationships.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the VP, Development. Member of the Global Giving team. The position interfaces with the following internal teams - Office of the President, Finance, Operations, IT, HR, Marketing, Corporate Relations Team, Director of Programs, and other staff. The Senior Philanthropy Gift Officer does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in a field conducive to having strong written and verbal communication skills, required.
  • A basic knowledge of international relief and development work, health conditions overseas and/or nonprofit business skills.
  • Moderate to Advanced computer skills required with proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite- Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and general computer skills.
  • Experience with donor databases (e.g., Agilon, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar) required
  • A minimum of 3 years of successful rising, major and signature gift fundraising experience working with individuals, foundations, churches, and organizations, preferably in the international NGO and relief sector.
  • Experience in fundraising with a proven track record of achieving and surpassing targets.
  • Experience in planned giving, preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Identify and qualify donors from the organizational pool of organizational donors that meet the rising, major and signature gift criteria.
  • Develop data-driven financial goals based on each donor's giving history and potential.
  • Ability to create a personal contact and ask plan considering the individual donor’s interests, motivations, giving patterns and ask preferences, for each donor on his or her portfolio in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Successfully retain existing donors while securing upgraded gift commitments.
  • Ability to ask for gifts from qualified donors (rising $5,000-$9,999, major $10,000-$99,999, signature $100,000+).
  • Ability to secure project and organization information and craft effective investment opportunity proposals based on organizational priorities and donor interests.
  • Ability to gather and provide accurate, compelling information to report back to donors on the impact on the use of their contributions.
