We're looking for a motivated and skilled Information Technology (I.T.) Technician to manage and maintain our critical information technology infrastructure. This role is based at our manufacturing plant and office in Calgary, Alberta. You'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and efficiency of our network systems, hardware, and software, directly supporting our production operations and administrative functions.
This position is perfect for a proactive individual with a strong understanding of industrial IT environments and a commitment to minimizing downtime and optimizing performance.
Job Description:Technical support and administration
- Provide first and second-level IT support to all employees for hardware, software, and network issues.
- Diagnose and resolve technical problems to minimize disruption to production.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies in Active Directory.
- Maintain servers (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), and storage solutions (SAN, NAS).
- Oversee email systems and collaboration tools.
Network and Infrastructure Management
- Install and maintain LANs, WLANs, and WANs.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Manage network security, including firewalls, VPNs, and access controls.
- Manage and maintain plant floor PCs, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems, and other industrial computing devices.
- Install and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, and access points.
- Install and maintain network segmentation for operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) systems.
Helpdesk and Security
- Respond to user requests from the front line (phone and email) and direct them to the appropriate department.
- Create and manage various accesses such as Active Directory, OKTA, and Google.
- Enforce IT security policies, conduct security audits, and manage antivirus solutions.
- Perform regular system backups and ensure data recovery procedures are tested.
Project Management
- Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades and new technology implementations.
- Proactively identify opportunities to optimize IT systems.
- Document IT procedures and configurations.
What You Bring to the Role
Education and experience
- A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or a combination of education and equivalent practical experience.
- Previous experience as an IT Technician or Network Administrator, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Key skills
- Networking: strong command of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and hardware (Cisco, HP), as well as firewall configuration and network security.
- System administration: expertise in virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi), Active Directory, group policy, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- IT support: experience with IT and technology tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Jira Service Management.
- Infrastructure: familiarity with cabling infrastructure (fiber optic, Ethernet) and an understanding of backup, disaster recovery, and cloud services (Google Cloud is a plus).

Working conditions

- The role involves exposure to a steel manufacturing environment, including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises, as well as a standard office setting.
- You will perform moderate physical activity, including handling objects up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for more than four hours per day.
