About the opportunity:
The Payroll Manager plays a pivotal leadership role in ensuring the effective, accurate, and compliant delivery of payroll services across Launch Housing. Responsible for leading the Payroll team and managing end-to-end payroll operations for approximately 500 employees, the role ensures alignment with all relevant industrial instruments, legislation, and organisational policies. The Payroll Manager will work collaboratively across Finance, People Experience, and operational teams to foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional internal service delivery. This role also contributes to strategic initiatives and system enhancements and ensures appropriate risk controls and governance are in place across all payroll functions.

What you'll be doing:
Ensure timely and accurate delivery of all payroll cycles (including off-cycle and backpay events) with <0.5% error.
Interpret and implement relevant Enterprise Agreements, Awards, and statutory requirements in consultation with People Experience.
Lead, coach, and mentor payroll team members to ensure high performance and engagement including workload allocation, and performance development.
Ensure team practices support Enterprise Agreement and Fair Work compliance and remain current with legislative and system changes.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function to enhance efficiency, automation, and user experience.
Act as Payroll lead in system upgrades, user acceptance testing, integrations, and audits.
Work with IT and Finance Systems teams to manage payroll data security and system integrity.
Provide expert, proactive advice to internal stakeholders regarding payroll processes, entitlements, and reporting.
Build trusted relationships with the Finance and People Experience teams to support accurate budgeting, costing, and HR/payroll integration.
Respond to and resolve complex payroll queries and ensure high levels of internal client satisfaction.
Develop and implement change management strategies and business readiness plans in collaboration with People Experience teams, ensuring successful adoption of the new payroll systems.
Ensure Payroll compliance with Launch Housing policies & procedures.
Maintain accurate records and prepare internal and external reports including superannuation, taxation, and statutory returns.
Support internal and external audits, including preparation of data, documentation, and reconciliation materials.
Maintain data confidentiality and exercise a high degree of discretion at all times.
What we're looking for (key selection criteria):
Extensive experience managing end-to-end payroll for medium to large organisations, ideally in the not-for-profit or community sector.
Demonstrated understanding of SCHADS Award, Enterprise Agreements, Fair Work legislation, superannuation, and other compliance frameworks.
Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Experience with payroll and HRIS systems (Humanforce and/or Technology One highly regarded).
Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
Tertiary qualification in Payroll, Accounting, Business, or a related field (highly desirable).
Understanding of, or a demonstrated commitment to upholding, Child Safe Standards in the workplace
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
