About This Opportunity 

Join our world class, highly regarded Chappell Group to engage in and develop innovative translational research in vaccine development. You will leverage your established record of achievement and national recognition in virology, molecular biology and/or immunology to develop your international reputation and support further research for ViceBio/Sanofi.  You'll collaborate with academics, research professionals and industry partners to achieve this and will also be expected to perform a range of high level of service and engagement roles and activities across UQ and industry.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Research: Establish and/or develop a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

  • Teaching: Where undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is undertaken, achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and improve or innovate where appropriate in response to feedback.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a Full-time, 100% FTE Fixed-term position through to 31 December 2026 at Academic Level C.

About You 

  • Completion of a PhD in virology, molecular biology and/or immunology.
  • An established profile in research in viral vaccine development.
  • National recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences.
  • A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
  • A solid record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, mandatory immunisations etc.
