Roads Operator 1
(Full Time – 1 Existing)
The Town of Wasaga Beach is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individuals to perform the duties and responsibilities of “Roads Operator 1”, Public Works.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Roads Foreperson(s), this individual will complement the Public Works team in the maintenance and construction of the municipal roads and right-of-ways. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Grass mowing and tree trimming;
- Asphalt patching (cold and hot);
- Shoulder maintenance and washouts;
- Traffic control, including installation of traffic signs and devices;
- Sidewalk and curb maintenance;
- Garbage and recycling collection;
- Barge Operations;
- Maintenance of storm sewer and drainage facilities;
- Construction maintenance projects;
- Winter maintenance activities, including snow plowing, sanding/salting, sidewalk and hydrant snow clearing.
Experience and Qualifications:
- OSSD or equivalent combination of education;
- Demonstrated experience in roads maintenance and construction activities, including snow plow operations. Pipe laying and concrete forming / finishing, considered an asset;
- DZ Driver’s License is a minimum requirement, an AZ license is an asset to float equipment, and an acceptable current driver’s abstract;
- Knowledge and experience in the safe operation of light and heavy duty vehicles, servicing and road construction techniques and truck safety;
- Be physically able to perform the physical requirements of the position with the ability of heavy lifting and withstand extreme weather conditions;
- Demonstrated skill in using hand tools and in operating of machines and equipment (ie. mowers, compactors, chainsaws, etc.) commonly used in Public Works;
- Knowledge and understanding of, and ability to apply, relevant safety policies, standards and legislation (OHSA, WHMIS, OTM Book 7, AODA, etc.);
- Ability to provide an acceptable criminal records check upon hire;
- Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate considered an asset;
- Personal watercraft license is an asset to work on the Barge;
- Ability to work with and contribute positively to a service oriented team with good communication skills;
- Normal Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm and Winter Operations are 5:00 am to 1:30 pm OR 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm;
- Ability to work overtime for road construction, maintenance and snow removal operations as may be required;
- Applicants are advised that written, oral and practical testing may form part of the selection process.
- Collective Agreement Article 11.05 “Trial Period” and Schedule “A” will be adhered to.
Hourly rate: $29.04 Probationary Rate per Schedule ‘A’ of the Collective Agreement
