Job Title: Vice President Human Resources

Department: Human Resources

General Function:

The Vice President of Human Resources is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for developing and executing human resources strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. This role focuses heavily on personnel management and training, with an emphasis on building a high-performance culture that values employee development, accountability, and operational excellence.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: President, Chief Retail Officer

Positions that Report to you: Senior Human Resources Generalist, Payroll Specialist

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, and employee retention.

  • Oversee workforce planning to ensure proper staffing levels aligned with organizational goals.

  • Guide employee relations and conflict resolution with a focus on fairness, compliance, and company values.

  • Develop and execute HR strategies that align with organizational objectives and promote growth.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.

  • Manage HR metrics and analytics to drive data-informed decisions.

  • Oversee HR policies, compensation planning, and benefits administration.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement comprehensive training and professional development programs for all levels of staff.

  • Identify skills gaps and create targeted learning solutions to drive continuous improvement.

  • Oversee leadership development initiatives and succession planning to build a strong internal talent pipeline.

  • Evaluate training effectiveness and adjust strategies to maximize impact and ROI.

  • Promote a culture of learning and innovation across the organization.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Commitment to the Midwest Heritage mission and willingness to promote the values of the organization.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient computer skills. Microsoft Office preferred (Outlook, Power Point, Excel and Word.)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and interact with people in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Strong detail orientation including the ability to review forms for accuracy and completeness.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven expertise in personnel management, training and employee development.

  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, compliance, and best practices.

  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • HR certification (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is classified sedentary/light and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time.

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: sitting for long periods, talking (in person and by telephone), hearing and repetitive motions.

  • 15% travel to all Midwest Heritage locations periodically

Working Conditions:

  • The duties of this position are normally performed in a general office setting. This is a fast paced work environment. 

  • There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Computer (PC with Microsoft Office programs), telephone, calculator, telephone, copier, and printer.

Contacts: This position works with Midwest Heritage employees, bank customers, Hy-Vee employees, vendors and outside agents doing direct business with Midwest Heritage.
