Job Summary:

We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our Health Services/Dietary team. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for supporting meal preparation, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, and ensuring that meals are prepared and served in accordance with safety and nutritional guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Kitchen Support

  • Assist Cooks in the preparation and serving of meals.
  • Prepare special meals as needed and assist with pre-meal setup.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dining areas, storeroom, freezer, and cooler.
  • Wash and sanitize cooking utensils, eating utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure the proper storage of all kitchen tools and supplies.

Safety & Sanitation

  • Follow all food safety and infection control protocols.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions to the Food Services Supervisor.
  • Dispose of waste properly and manage kitchen laundry daily.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment by adhering to agency health and safety policies.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Attend and actively participate in food service meetings and required training sessions.
  • Communicate positively and openly with all staff members.
  • Read and follow daily communications, memos, and updates.
  • Follow directives from the Food Services Supervisor and assist with other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

  • Primarily day and afternoon shifts 11:00am to 700pm with flexibility to meet program needs.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency kitchen needs as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Experience operating kitchen equipment (including dishwasher), food preparation, serving, and using industrial cleaners preferred.

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to cleanliness and food safety.
  • Ability to collaborate with a team and work independently.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively de-escalate crises.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be able to implement approved physical intervention techniques and assist with student activities.
